Board Member Spotlight
Mary Kate Carter ’18
Mary Kate grew up in Greenville, SC, as a lifelong Clemson fan and graduated from Clemson in 2018 with a degree in French and International Trade.
Like many Clemson alumni, Mary Kate’s path to Washington, DC started with the Clemson Family. A Clemson alumnus and friend of her older sister helped her land a required “international” internship with the International Trade Administration. After that experience, she knew she wanted to move to DC after graduation.
She went on to earn a Master’s in International Trade & Investment Policy from The George Washington University and has spent her career working in international trade policy. Her experience spans Capitol Hill, trade associations, and a multi-client firm, and she currently serves on the professional staff of the Senate Finance Committee.
Mary Kate has remained active in the Clemson Family in DC through her membership in the Clemson Club and her involvement with the Young Alumni Council, where she currently serves as Chair. She is excited to continue growing the Club’s reach among young alumni and recent graduates while helping foster connections within the Clemson community.
Mary Kate lives on Capitol Hill with her bernedoodle, Lottie.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to wear the Tiger suit and represent Clemson University in front of thousands of fans? Join us for a special CU@Home virtual program on Wednesday, September 30, from 12:00–1:00 p.m., featuring former Clemson Tiger mascots Cory Luckett ‘08, Dan Licata ’09 and Martin Jernigan ’09 (who was also the Miami Dolphins mascot).
Cory, Dan and Martin will take us behind the scenes to share what it was really like to serve as one of Clemson’s most recognizable ambassadors. From game day traditions and unforgettable moments in Death Valley to the preparation, discipline, and pride that come with wearing the Tiger suit, they will offer a unique perspective on one of Clemson’s most iconic roles.
Whether you’ve cheered alongside the Tiger for decades or simply want to hear stories that few people ever get to experience, this promises to be a fun and engaging hour filled with Clemson spirit, memorable anecdotes, and an inside look at the traditions that make Clemson so special.
