Board Member Spotlight
Dan ’99 and Michon ’99 Frick
We love Clemson! Who doesn’t, right? We can honestly say our lives would be so different if it wasn’t for Clemson University. See we met at Clemson our junior year in a Marketing class at Sikes Hall. Two kids from out-of-state meeting in college that have not been married for 20 years! Seems like fate.
Dan was born and raised in Gaithersburg, MD, played baseball and is one of 3 children. Michon is an only child and grew up in Lexington, KY playing basketball (because that’s what you do in Kentucky!).
We currently live in Dan’s hometown of Gaithersburg with our 3 boys. Morrow is an incoming senior at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Vaughn is a soon to be high schooler at the same school and Kamper is a rising 7th grader at St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Rockville, MD. We live right down the road from Dan’s parents and are neighbors with his cousin, Craig Frick (who has 4 boys of his own…3 of which have attended or are attending Clemson). We are big on family.
Michon started her career in real estate in Washington, DC until she opened her own women’s clothing boutique in The Kentlands in 2004. It was a great success, and she recently sold her business and considers herself “semi-retired”, although the boys keep her very busy. She also volunteers at their schools and is currently the HAS Treasurer at St. Elizabeth’s. Dan started his career at Oracle in 2000, he quickly learned he liked the fast pace of the corporate world and began working for Apple in 2004. In 2014, Dan started working for SAP supporting the Department of Defense.
We owe a lot to the little town of Clemson, SC. We are hopeful our boys will attend our alma mater someday. And joining the Regional Board would be a privilege and our chance to give back to the University that gave us so much!

We would love to have you join us in Ashburn, VA for a very casual evening of Clemson camaraderie! We’ll enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages, meet some great local Clemson moms, and assemble care packages for our Clemson students in time for a Valentine’s Day surprise.
Here’s how it works: Once we have a confirmed guest count, each person is asked to bring one item to contribute to the care packages. For example, if we have 15 people joining, then you would bring 15 of one item (Rice Krispies treats, lip balm, ramen noodles, fuzzy socks … you get the idea!) and at the end of the night, you’ll walk away with a box full of goodies that you can mail to your Clemson student(s).
Sounds like fun, right?!
Event details and the final count for the number of items to bring will be emailed two days prior to the event.

We’ll hear about CU-ICAR’s work with autonomous vehicles including a look at Deep Orange, the flagship graduate student program that challenges students to design, engineer, and prototype a completely new concept vehicle in two years, pushing the boundaries of conventional design.
